Smiling Woman

Some people are born with excess skin around their eyes, while others experience it as they age.

If you have hooded upper eyelids or sagging bags beneath your lower eyelids, Dr. Arnold S. Lee can help.

Let him resolve your cosmetic issue with a blepharoplasty at AELeeMD Plastic Surgery and Laser Center in Boston, MA.

What Is a Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery addressing your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

Understanding the Two Kinds of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Hooded eyes, fat deposits, and winkles can all be addressed using upper eyelid surgery. The procedure varies depending on your needs, but it typically begins with an incision along the crease of your eye.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

If you have bags or wrinkles beneath your eyes, you may benefit from lower eyelid surgery. During the procedure, Dr. Lee will carefully refine the area via a lashline or under-eyelid incision.

Did you know that a blepharoplasty has lasting effects beyond cosmetic changes?

Improve Your Eyesight With Eyelid Surgery

For people with extreme sagging, eyelid surgery can actually improve their quality of life. Because sagging eyelid skin can block your vision, a blepharoplasty may improve your eyesight. Additionally, excess skin may cause dry eyes, which can feel painful or irritated. However, eyelid surgery can be an effective treatment, provided that your dry eyes are caused by sagging eyelids.

The day of your blepharoplasty procedure is here. You'll arrive at our state-of-the-art Boston office, along with a companion to drive you home.

To ensure that you avoid discomfort during the procedure, you will be sedated for your blepharoplasty. Once you are fully asleep, the surgery will begin.

Dr. Lee will expertly conduct your blepharoplasty, strategically placing incisions so any scars will be hidden as much as possible. A lower eyelid surgery typically involves a lashline or under-eyelid incision, while an upper eyelid surgery typically involves an eyelid crease incision.

Your recovery should take about one to two weeks. Side effects may include bruising and swelling. While bruising and swelling are normal, if you have any complications or concerns, you can contact Dr. Lee.

A week into your recovery, you will come back to see Dr. Lee for incision stitch removal. You can also take the time to talk with him about any questions you may have.

Maximize Your Results With an Additional Brow Lift

If you have eyelid wrinkles, you may also have forehead wrinkles. Fortunately, there is a way that you can refine them both at the same time. Pairing your blepharoplasty with a brow lift can provide amazing results, giving you smoother, more youthful skin.

Dr. Lee provides both brow lifts and eyelid surgery at his state-of-the-art facility in Boston. He can discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for these two effective cosmetic procedures during your initial consultation.

Will I Have a Scar After My Blepharoplasty?

You may have a minimal, hidden scar — or you might not have one at all. As blepharoplasty techniques evolve and improve, it has become easier to conceal the incision site. Lower eyelid scars are often easier to hide, especially if your plastic surgeon makes an incision within the lash line. As for upper eyelids, they may have slight scarring, but because the incision is made in the crease, the mark is harder to see.
