2020's Most Popular Plastic Surgery For Men and Women Alike

In 2020, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons surveyed the number of facial plastic surgeries performed that year. Rhinoplasty was the number one most popular surgery, including both face and body procedures, with 352,555 patients undergoing treatment. According to the numbers, it was also a popular option for both male and female patients, with over 65,000 men deciding to refine their noses.

Dramatic Results Are Possible Here's What a Nose Job Can Do for You

Before Rhinoplasty
Before Rhinoplasty A facial injury affected the shape of this
patient's nose, twisting the nasal bridge and causing a dorsal bump.
After Rhinoplasty
After Rhinoplasty Dr. Lee straightened the nasal bridge and smoothed
away the dorsal bump, improving this patient's ability to breathe.
Notice how the final results restored her facial profile in a natural-looking way. If these results look appealing to you, consider speaking with a plastic surgeon about rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty Surgical Techniques Performed by Dr. Lee

Choosing a doctor with techniques you can trust is one of the most important parts of your rhinoplasty journey. Dr. Lee can minimize scarring, shape cartilage, and improve results with techniques like:

Closed Rhinoplasty

Concerned about scarring? Dr. Lee may recommend a closed rhinoplasty, depending on your case. In a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nostrils. This helps keep scars hidden from view. While discreet, plastic surgeons are limited in the changes they can make to the cartilage and other nasal structures.

Open Rhinoplasty

For patients wanting more ambitious shaping of their cartilage and nose, Dr. Lee also can provide an open rhinoplasty. Using this technique, an additional incision is made across the columella, the tissue that separates the nostrils. This extra incision helps surgeons make more dramatic changes to the cartilage and other structures of the nose.

Which Surgery Option Is Right for Me?

In the simplest terms, the decision to perform an open or closed rhinoplasty depends on the extent of work needed to achieve your aesthetic goals. Dr. Lee will work with you to determine which method is right for your situation.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Correcting a Previous Surgery

Smiling Woman

An initial rhinoplasty may not yield the results you want. The bridge may still be crooked, or you may require further tip defining. Dr. Lee can correct a previous nose job by performing a secondary surgical procedure known as a revision rhinoplasty. With revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Lee attempts to improve on the results of the first surgery and achieve a patient's true cosmetic goals.

During a consultation at our Boston plastic surgery center, Dr. Lee will go over your concerns. He will also note previous incision locations, changes to the cartilage structure of the nose, the shape of your nostrils, and other factors that could affect the revision technique.

Each revision is individualized to the patient to ensure natural-looking results and high levels of satisfaction.

A Focus on Ethnic Noses Preserving Your Natural Beauty

Not all patients want a cookie-cutter nose that isn't representative of their individuality and heritage. In addition to revision surgery, Dr. Lee specializes in ethnic rhinoplasty to give you beautiful results while still representing your unique background. Patients with ethnic noses come to Dr. Lee to correct asymmetrical features, breathing problems, fractures, and other imperfections that detract from the natural beauty of their noses.

This patient came to our Boston practice after a nasal fracture that resulted in a twisted, asymmetrical nose. Dr. Lee kept the shape and structure of his nose intact while aligning the position of the bridge and refining the tip to give his entire face a more symmetrical appearance. The results still highlight the patient's natural features, but they bring better balance to his face as a whole.

A Patient-Centered Plastic Surgeon Appreciated By Boston

"I was miserable because of the way my nose looked and the pain was unbearable. Over the course of the year, I went to 6 different doctors in Massachusetts (and even two out of state), and I heard Dr. Arnold Lee was one of the best around for corrective surgery. I made an appointment and both him and his staff were AMAZING. They were kind, compassionate, and listened to my concerns.
..The entire experience was one of the most pleasant surgical experiences I’ve EVER had. Everyone took care of me, and Dr. Lee completely fixed my nose. I have zero pain and all my issues are resolved. I say this with tears in my eyes: I am BEYOND GRATEFUL for him!!! Thank you, Dr. Lee!!!!"

The Step-By-Step Process Of a Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Lee will create a surgical plan that's personalized to your unique needs and goals. However, this timeline represents the general process you can expect when undergoing cosmetic nose surgery.

Anesthesia

Anesthesia makes the rhinoplasty process virtually painless. During your consultation, Dr. Lee will discuss the anesthesia options available to you, including local and general anesthesia.

Incisions

Whether you receive a closed or open nose surgery, small incisions will be made to access your nasal structures. During a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are created inside the nostrils, but during open rhinoplasty, the incisions are created on the outside of the nose between the nostrils.

Reshaping

Dr. Lee will work through these small incisions to refine the areas you wish to change, such as the bridge, tip, nostrils, or septum of the nose.

Sutures

Depending on the extent of your surgery, non-dissolvable or dissolvable sutures will be used to close the small incisions on the inside or outside of your nose.

Splints

Nasal splints or internal packing can support and protect your nose as it heals. They can be placed inside or outside the nose. Internal nasal splints are used to support the septum, while external nasal splints are attached to the nose using bandages or adhesive.

Rhinoplasty FAQs

Dr. Lee is always happy to answer your questions about rhinoplasty and facial plastic surgery. Some of the most common ones he receives include:

Does rhinoplasty leave visible scarring?

Many patients are concerned about scarring during their nose surgery, but they're always relieved to hear the truth: rhinoplasty rarely leaves long-term visible scarring, and marks typically fade over time. For improved results, Dr. Lee offers closed rhinoplasty techniques, which conceal scarring thanks to careful interior incisions.

How long do rhinoplasty results last?

Your results should last for the rest of your life. That's why it's important to find a doctor who can perform your nose surgery correctly. Of course, patients may still experience a few small differences as they get older, which is normal for the aging process, regardless of whether or not you have undergone a nose job.

Is revision rhinoplasty safe?

After poor results from a past rhinoplasty, patients may be concerned that they'll never have the nose they want. However, revision rhinoplasty is safe, provided you choose a surgeon with relevant experience. Dr. Lee specializes in this specific type of nose surgery, carefully reshaping cartilage and structures to create the nose you wanted the first time around.

Boston Loves Their Experience And Their Results
